Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass, the official state fish of Georgia, is the game fish that everyone is after. If you are a fan of this popular fish, check out Lake Walter F. George, also known as Lake Eufala. Professional bass-fishing tournaments use this spot, which is an excellent guarantee of the size and quality of the stock you will catch.

Set a New World Record

Or maybe you would like to visit a bit of fishing history at Montgomery Lake, on the Ocmulgee River. In 1932, George W. Perry famously caught the current world record largemouth bass. You can try to set a record of your own to brag about to friends.

Other Big Fish Lakes

Striped bass, crappie, spotted bass, and more call Lake Allatoona or Lake Lanier home. In addition, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages these lakes, so they are stocked with plenty of great fish options. Look out for walleye in Lanier and spotted bass in Allatoona.

Reservoir Fishing Spots

Some of the best fishing spots in Georgia are large reservoirs. Lake Seminole is a magnificent, 37,500-acre reservoir in southwest Georgia known for its enormous largemouth bass. Clarks Hill Lake is Georgia's largest reservoir, with over 1,200 miles of shoreline fishing. Clarks Hill is considered "Georgia's Freshwater Coast," with a wide assortment of bluegill, catfish, and crappie. It is famous for its bass tournaments because it is teeming with largemouth, striped, white, and hybrid bass.

State Parks

Make sure to make room for at least one state park on a Georgia fishing trip. An excellent spot for trout, bluegill, and bass is Lake Tralyta in the Vogel State Park. Or there is the Victoria Bryant State Park, with two ponds open to public fishing. If you are interested in larger lakes, try the Reed Bingham State Park. It features a 375-acre lake with catfish, bream, bass, and crappie.
